WOMO Delivers !!!

I recently blogged about a new site that I had found called 'Word of Mouth Online' that pays you to review businesses that you have shopped at.

Its pretty easy, you write a quick review and get some points, you provide comments and compliemnts on other peoples reviews and you get a few points.

For me, I saw a great opportunity to make an extra $1 or $2 for mystery shopping assignments.

Gift Vouchers from WOMO
Well today I got my first delivery of gift card vouchers. 3 x $20 WISH Gift Cards and 1 x $10 iTunes card. This is was pretty easy...

Yeah great site, they pay you to put reviews up, many are just fluff. And when businesses pay them they make sure any review they don't like (even slightly negative) is removed on request..

I guess it is good to get kickbacks from them, they make lots of money, so do you but unsuspecting customers get tricked into using poor businesses by their dodgy 'review' site...

Whilist I haven't posted any scathing reviews, I have put up several that clearly indicate the service or product was not so great. None have been deleted to my knowledge.

Bigger question is, as a consumer can you really trust 'review' web sites? There is a whole new industry sprung up called 'online image management' they work review sites pretty hard..

I discovered this site a few years ago looking for a local hairdresser of quality and this site provided me that. I have subsequently joined and reviewed. All but one of my reviews were accepted. The one not accepted was a negative review mixed with some mild positives for a business used many times by us. I am somewhat in agreement that they don't want to hear about the not so nice facts of service and products of the businesses being reviewed which I found to be questionable. My opinion is that it's a word of mouth site on people's positive experiences coupled with only mild negatives. Any really truthful major negatives are not published.

Hi all, it's Fiona from Word Of Mouth Online here. Just wanted to make it clear that we definitely DO allow negative reviews. If a business queries a review, we sometimes require that the reviewer either allow us to pass or their name for verification OR provide us with some evidence of being a customer. (Unfortunately sometimes a competitor or disgruntled staff member will post a fake negative review so we need to mitigate against this.) However, if the review is genuine and within our Fair Play Policy, it is published for the world to see. Our aim is to help people find good businesses AND send a message to dodgy businesses to lift their game.
