Survey Village goes Focus Group :)

Survey Village have announced that they are now offering their panel members the opportunity to participate in focus groups, interviews and telephone surveys.

My kids will be pleased...I convert my points from Survey Village into EB Games Vouchers.

The first offering I have had from them is to participate in a 30 minute phone survey for 1000 points. Thats equivalent to about $20 an hour, so I guess that's not too bad.

You can read my review of Survey Village here.

Is My Opinions a Scam?

The Internet is the new frontier of the scammer - individual and organisations alike. Beware Dear Reader - they are everywhere and anywhere.

Some things start out with best intentions, some start out with the deliberate intention of scamming you and anybody else they can get into.

And some times allegations get thrown around for no real reason at all.....If you read some of the blogs around you find some negative feedback about just about everything and anything.

Which brings me to my point, I was reading recently about how 'My Opinions' was just another internet scam. This seemed quite strange, especially since I was just about to get my $60 payment from them thru paypal.

For the record, in Australia, at least, I get about 3 or 4 surveys do to from My Opinions each week, they are usually worth between 150 and 500 points (which roughly equates to $1.50 to $5) the surveys are generally pretty easy and quick to complete.

So where does the bad feedback come from?

Maybe they thought they were going to make a fortune filling in surveys?
Maybe they got screened because they put in stupid answers in the surveys?
Maybe they were trying to scam the survey panel?

I really don't know.

I guess the lesson in this might be:

a) don't have too high an expectation of making money with doing online surveys....seriously its pocket money, an extra part time (tax free) income at best.

b) sometimes the scammers aren't the company but the people who try to rip the company off....

Of course don't stop being suspicious and sceptical of anything you see or read on the Internet or anywhere else for that matter.

I have done many surveys and attended quite a few focus groups from being a member of the LightSpeed Online Survey Panel.  During June and July 2010 everybody who joins goes into the draw to win a $2000 Travel Voucher.

Mystery Shopper SCAM Alert !!!!!

Daily Telegraph reports that there's a mystery shopper scam to beware of, read article here:http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/news/nsw-act/fake-cheques-trick-shoppers-local-mules-in-scam-to-launder-money/comments-e6freuzi-1225880603919

Gets me to thinking, it seems hard to believe anyone would fall for a scam as simple as this one. But they do, and if we are honest there has been a time when we have either fallen for, or nearly fallen for a scam. Whether it was sending money for a chain letter or buying something that didn't turn out to be what you expected....

So what is your, 'I have been scammed story??????'

$20 EB Games Voucher.....from Survey Village.

Arrived home late last night and checked the mail box at around 9pm.

It was a nice surprise to pull a letter out with a $20 EB Games Voucher in it.

Now $20 isn't a whole lot of money I know, but for my 2 boys it means they can each buy a Playstation 2 game. EB Games have quite a good selection of PS2 game still for $10 each.

This is the third voucher I have received survey village since joining in October 2009. They don't send me a lot of surveys, but the ones they do send add up to a $20 voucher quickly. You can Register for Survey Village here.

Mystery Shopping Hints & Tips: What to Do with the Free Products?

When you do regular Mystery Shopping assignments you tend to start accumulating products that you have purchased and been reimbursed for as part of the evaluation of a retail store. So what do you do with all the free products?

Well, you could eat, drink, wear or give them away, but you might also consider whether you can on sell them to someone who might be interested.

I have been doing assignments for liquor stores assessing their staff's ability to be able to recommend and sell various wines. The payment for the assignment is between $10-15 and you get to spend $15-25 on a bottle which you get to keep.

Rather than just drink the wine, I guess that's an option, but I have been finding friends, family etc that like wine and on selling them for half price. They get a bargain and I get between $7 and $14 extra for the assignment. The assignment takes you about 20 minutes, so you can really up your hourly rate return with this extra money.

If you are interested in Mystery Shopping read about it here.

AmpSurveys, an example of what to AVOID?

AmpSurveys looks at lot like the kind of survey panel I would recommend avoiding. You do surveys and maybe you win a prize...

Open to US, Canada, United Kingdom, Australia.

They say that if you join their panel you will get opinion surveys and contests, no mention of cash. The company (Ampario) is owned by OTX Research who I know, and am reasonably positive about, from doing Movie reviews. Maybe it just looks bad?

Anyway, if you decide to try it, use an email address that you don't need to rely on, and let me know what you think. AmpSurveys.
